Reliable and repeatable ballistics testing can bring significant advances in security and defense. Sydor Instruments' ballistics imaging system is a cost-effective way to accurately and repeatably capture the flight of a projectile.

The light source imaging system allows a commercial off-the-shelf Machine Vision camera to capture the yaw and angle of a fast flying projectile crossing a field of view. The system, designed for experimental flexibility, offers:

  • Adjustable pulse from 12ns — 40ns
  • High repetition rate
  • Dual mode (alignment & pulsed imaging)
  • Integrated pulse shaping circuit
  • Customizable illumination area
  • Multiple mounting points (1/4-20)

"We are very pleased with the relationship we share with Sydor Instruments. We are providing survivability, lethality and vulnerability (SLV) assessments for senior leaders, developers and evaluators helping to ensure that U.S. personnel and equipment survive and function effectively in hostile circumstances.

The Ballistic Imaging challenge we put in front of Sydor was a big mountain to climb: deliver a system for small caliber ballistic characterization that is accurate, measurable, repeatable, and equally important...affordable. Sydor delivered a system that will enable us to completely characterize dynamics of small caliber projectiles, including velocity and complete yaw cycle measurements."
